Day 11 - 6/14/17 - Baker City, OR to Oxbow, OR- 71 Miles
Average Speed - I have a granny gear and I know how to use it
Lodging - Copperfield Campground - $10/2
I suffered today and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I guess that's what I get for taking a day off. Almost 7 hours sitting on a bicycle seat with one heck of a climb to boot.
The first 40 miles were very nice. We paralleled the Powder River as it wound its way through the mountains. The views were spectacular and the river was flowing in the same direction as we were which is a very good thing.
We stopped in Richland for lunch and I got a big cheeseburger. Considering that there was a steep climb leaving town, my lunch choice was not a particularly sound one.
After lunch I suffered under the unrelenting sun and on an equally unrelenting slope.
I reached the top around 3 PM and realized I had more than 20 miles to go and not sure I had 20 miles left in the tank. Somewhere along those 20 miles I came across this...
If beautiful flowers can grow from rocks...I can make it as well...I just gotta dig deep enough and hold on tight!
I am camping on the bank of the Snake River tonight, just downstream from the Oxbow Dam. The view from my tent is priceless.
