Day 41 - 7/14/17 - Newton, KS to Eureka, KS - 75 Miles
Average Speed - Somewhere between this and that
Lodging - Eureka City Park - free
I was certainly glad to be staying in a motel last night. It was a stormy night!
My ride today was under mostly cloudy skies with the temps reaching only the mid 80s. I was grateful, because I faced a mild to moderate headwind most of the day as I traversed the straight roads and rolling hills of eastern Kansas.
I mostly traveled through cattle country and had one interesting experience. Around mile 25, I stopped to take a break and eat a little something. In the field next to me were cattle that speckled the hillside. I didn't pay much attention while I was eating and drinking and fiddling with my bike. At some point in time I turned around to this...
All the cattle in the field were making their way to the fence near where I stood. They were all looking at me. It was disconcerting to be the center of attention in the middle of nowhere. I quickly packed up and rode away.
I am once again staying in a city park enjoying the adjacent community pool.
I'm gonna miss Kansas!!
