Average Speed - There's something wrong with my brakes
Lodging - Lamplighter Inn and Suites
Today was a relatively easy day, though a hot one. I pulled out early this morning to, not beat, but get ahead of the heat. The winds were mild. It was a beautiful morning to be on a bike. I knew I only had 58 miles to cover. I pedaled at a relaxed pace... no anxiety...no haste. I just pedaled and enjoyed each revolution.

My map showed that the first town with services was Walnut. With a population of only 219 and it being a Sunday, I gave it a 10% chance that the store would be open. To my pleasant surprise it was open. I went in, picked up a gatorade, chocolate milk (still craving), coffee and an english muffin with sausage, egg and cheese. I sat down among a bunch of old timers drinking coffee. In spandex, I didn't exactly fit in, but as I have experienced time and again in Kansas, the people are kind and accepting. It felt good sitting there and talking. I hated to leave, but I have a country to pedal across. As my time in Kansas draws to a close, the miles seem to rush under my wheels. I can't seem to ride slow enough. I'm not ready for it to end, but I'm looking forward to what the road holds tomorrow!
I Think I Will Be OK
